Condar seems to be the best. I believe that is what Woodstock sells and we have 2 of them. We've tried others but just too much variance in them.

I did check ours with the IR gun and the come about 13 degrees apart which is not bad. The Rutlands were over 100 degrees off.

I have a condar inferno on my VC encore. It seems to work very well and i use it daily.

Same here. Seems to read about 100* lower than my Rutland did. With the fires I've had, with a pretty good load of wood, I'd get my Rutland reading 750*. With the same loads, my Condar reads around 650*. Still haven't loaded the stove up as full as I could, though, so I'm sure I will get higher temps read from the Condar eventually.

I stuck the Rutland on the flue pipe, for now.

I've been very happy with my Condar thermometers . . . cannot say if my probe thermo is accurate or not, but I know the magnetic thermo is very close to the same temp I get with the IR thermometer.
