so i am new to the pellet burning bizz, i know what a klinker is but have been wondering why it got that name?may be a stupid question but im gonna ask it and bare the abuse from everybody when i get razzed about it! so why is it called a klinker?

reason im asking is ive removed a couple from my stove today after installing it saturday afternoon and was inspecting it and wondered why its called a klinker.

I believe it came from when people mainly burned coal.

Try increasing draft air a little to get rid of them.

Clinker is sometimes spelled "Klinker" which is the original Dutch / Low German, word. The old onomatopoeic verb "klinken" meant "to sound", i.e. a "Klinker" is a "sounder". (These brick stones produce a specifically bright sound when hit with or against something, for instance each other ... also compare with the Standard German "klingen")

Clinker bricks are also known as hard Dutch paving bricks. In 18th century New York, the Dutch interspersed dark clinkers with regular bricks. Some used clinkers to spell out their family initials on brick dwellings.

I thought I had to much spare time...

To add to hossthehermit's contribution in the sound category:

US and Canadian slang a mistake or fault, esp a wrong note in music vb

clink·er (kl ng k r) n. 1. The incombustible residue, fused into an irregular lump, that remains after the combustion of coal

Google it... Other than mentioned above. Time x Heat x Moisture x Minerals x Screw it.. Google it...

Save up two good-sized chunks of the stuff. Now strike them against each other. Hear that 'clinking' sound? Mystery solved.

When you throw it into a metal bucket, it goes clink.
