Why so hot? and is that your flue temp?

I use it as an insert in an exterior masonry chimney. It heats a large space and I am pretty sure the stove likes it...alot! I am putting a probe in this spring to measure the flue temp but when burning good with air open. You actually heat the flue real hot as all the heat is going up the chimney. Right about 600-625 is the stoves sweet spot. Burns real slow and uses little wood. I would assume it is different when using as a freestanding unit.

what kind of burn times are you seeing ?

If I load at 11pm at 600 F, full, it will burn all night. When I check at 7:30ish am, it is about 300-400 F and jsut coals. I close off air and get home at 5:30 pm there are still a few coal to catch a new fire going.
