Last year was my first year burning and I was busy so I paid a sweep to clean my liner, I figure instead of giving a sweep the money Ill just buy a cleaning kit and start doing it myself. My roof is easy to get on and off and not steep plus my chimney goes through the middle of the house so Im safely in the middle of the roof.
Is this kit ok? I have a 26' liner

When I clean I assume I leave the cat in the unengaged position?

thanks everyone

wow... I think thats expensive. I got my brush and cleaning rods from Lowes or Home Depot for about $60. I would look around a little before I paid that much.
Good luck

Don't know about the cat but 168.00 for rods and a brush? Man, seems a little steep! I bought mine from tractor supply, Rutland, for less than 60.00.... My chimney is 15' and I got 18' of rods but extra rods were only 7-8 bux from Home Depot. I'd imagine that they are not in stock but can be ordered.

I hope not to step on any sponsors toes!

I just found the ones from Tractor supply and one just opened in my area this week. $34 for 18' rods and $14.99 for the brush, I looked at home depot and they were out, I checked three in the area and couldnt find them online, I must be using the wrong search words.

I agree, the price seems high, you might contact some of the advertisers on this site and ask for discounts, they may be able to assist you in your purchase and any questions you have. But definitely shop around and get yourself a good price, alot of places sell them.

cmonSTART, how do they work on a typical Class A 6" Chimney and double wall pipe. I considered getting one as I have to remove my flue to clean it and accessing the roof in winter is a little tricky due to the massive amounts of snow.

+1 on the soot eater. Just stand upwind from the flue. It is very thorough. Go at your own pace and let the drill do the work.

They work fine - at leasts I assume so.

A Soot Eater is basically a homeowner version of some pro tools which I use for pretty much anything. Liner, Class A, Masonry. It's a great product and a lot of folks here use them.

As others said after reading here I ordered a SootEater from my local Truevalue store here in Milford NH- A great place called County Stores. They did not stock it and were somewhat skeptical about it with its plastic cleaners (Kind of looks like a weed whacker thing but they are replaceable) but I bought it because so many here at Hearth.com speak well of it and my friends at Country Stores- who always give me great and honest advice whether its "ya this thing works" Or " no idea" are waiting for my report on how this sucker works. Will be a few weeks before I give it a shot but with my experience taking advice from folks on this forum I expect it to clean my chimney and serve me a few beers afterwards:)
I'll post after I use it with my experience but thought I would at least point you in this direction for consideration. GL and link below FYI

Good for you, I'm sure you will like it. Did you get the extra rod set for cleaning your liner? The Sooteater comes with 18' feet of flexible rods.
