Just ordered my first batch of Super Cedars preparing for my first firing.

You won't be disappointed. They work like a charm.

They work good, but so does newspaper and old chucks of lumber... and those are free.

Yes Nate, we did that for many, many moons. I've grown to like the Super Cedars and even better is that now the wife can get a fire started quickly. It is something she always struggled with but no more.

I tried to buy some last year but they wanted some crazy high price for shipping so I ended up cancelling the order.

I'm the biggest critic of all and I dig them! Although they are a local company, twelve minutes away.... I use a small version called a lightning bug. Actually intended for a pellet stove, I only use eight pieces of kindling and we're off to the races. I will be using the super cedars on the next round of starters as I feel they are a better product.

i believe i bought some from walmart here in alaska. they worked good too!

I don't think Super Cedars are gear unless you are using them to burn through a log to get stove-length rounds... ;-)

The Super Cedars do work good. I like 'em.

They are spendy to ship to Alaska, like most everything is. So last winter I tried a box (100) of Lightning Nuggets, bought from Amazon.com and free shipping. Just looked the other day, they're right at $28 a box.

Gotta say, they work good, too. I cut 'em in half with a big knife and half a unit gets the fire going just fine. They're built different than the 'Cedars, these nuggets come as half a globe.

Price is right, and they worked just fine for me. Bout ready to order another box. Really like the Cedars, too, but the Amazon free shipping is too good to pass up.

Not to beat the dead horse, here - but the Rutland fire starter squares ( box of 144, I think - Home Depot) are like $12 a box. One square and a few kindling pieces- and youre good to go --every time.

And Super Cedars is also a sponsor here on hearth.com. Just one more reason to buy from them.

Savage listed one of the reasons I ordered them. Another reason, is that it's a small company and I support them as often as I can. I will pay more for something if I know that it supports small business America, one of the reasons I went with the Woodstock stove. I may be a government employee but I know what makes America strong and will be the exact thing that gets us out of the mess we're in, it sure ain't going to be the government.

Agreed. Same reasons here. Also I figure almost every year they give freebies for new customers so I don't mind helping the cause. I usually get two boxes of the unwrapped one for the house and one for the cabin, got a deal a few years on free shipping since bought two boxes.

I just check, no shipping charges. Looking forward to using them!

You are very correct n3pro. Thomas has been extremely generous in handing out samples and even ships those free too. I personally like doing business with someone like this and sincerely hope he prospers.

When he does that its like cheap advertising for him. Because, like I, he's betting on a returnable customer. I took advantage last winter of his offer, then bought a box of it in early spring. When i got tired of tearing newspaper and phonebook apart in even and morning sessions. So much easier to cut in quarts, put in with kindling and away you go. Plus, I always try to buy from the small man, whenever possible.

Last year what I did was bought a box of fire logs, setup the table saw and make "pucks" about 3/4"-1" thick. I forget how many I got in the end, but I still have a big tote bin full of them for this year.

To light I would just put a squirt or two of hand sanitizer (got from work for free) on the puck, and light it. Then stick some smaller wood around it (have chucks of old lumber I usually use) and that's it.

The super cedars work great (there were a couple inside my Blaze King when I bought it), but they were just too expensive with teh shipping.

Well, I've been wondering what all the fuss is about with these Super Cedars, so I put in for my freebies. You might not believe, cause I sure wouldn't if someone had told me, but I figured they would arrive by spring using the cheapest shipping possible. That's how you do it right by just cutting every possible corner to pinch a penny, save a nickel, or steal a quarter, even. Well, my two free, lovely and aromatic Super Cedars arrived today, 11/2. I sent my email for my free samples on 10/28. Received email response from Lara on 10/30. In my mailbox, today, 11/2. They spent $2.39 on shipping to rush me my free samples. That's wild!! Who does that??

I haven't tried them, yet, not because I'm saving them, though with them smelling so nice (wish I could make my post a scratch-n-sniff), I'm tempted. Also tempted to save them for the most horrifically cold winter morning when my finger joints are almost locked stiff and I need a quick fire. No, I cannot burn them in my new stove just yet as I am in the middle of installing it, well, the hearth and heat shield. But that's another post when I get my pictures together.

Thanks Lara and Thomas over there in Super Cedar heaven. Kind of a prayer answered. Just wish other prayers would come so evidently clear and fast!!

Break them in quarters and you'll have more than enough to get the fire going.

I often light the stove using 1/4 of a cedar and basically no kindling (just some smaller splits). Works well so long as the fuel source is well seasoned.

I agree, the offers they have given hearth members are impressive. True USA company.

I just ordered more Super Cedars, should be in anytime. I unwrap one "puck", place it in a cutting board and use a cleaver to cut into 8 pieces. With nicely seasoned DRY wood (no kindling), it's just enough to get the fire going without a problem. That's me being Mr.Cheap...

Love my Super Cedars! One of the many benefits of finding and hanging around Hearth.com!

Super Cedars are great, tried the free sample packs a couple years ago and liked them. I found them to be too high priced for myself so I haven't placed an order yet. I just buy the cheap $10/box of 24 Starter Logg things at wally world and half or even quarter them.

The Super Cedars are the easiest things in the world to start though, just a touch of flame adn they're going...the Starter Loggs you hae to hold the flame to a corner for a bit to get it going.

Unquestionably a superior product, but too pricey for the value to me.

My experiences with fire-starters are as follows:

Got 2 free super-cedars to try out. They are definitely fantastic.

I also got a free sample of the Rutland firestarters... not so fantastic. They don't take off as quickly, don't burn as long or as hot as the super-cedars.

If I were buying firestarters it would definitely be super-cedars for me.

But I don't buy firestarters that often. I make my own with old candles (women always have old candles around that need to be "recycled" into something else useful).
