So Cent ALASKA
Warmed up to 30°f here. Getting long burns again.
Some pictures of the coals after a 24 hr burn & a new load of birch. Some bark up front at the bottom, stuck down in the coals to get the fire going.
Pics didn't load in order?
Bot middle: Picture of what's left after 24 hours & I raked the coals around. Stove was still putting out heat. (house 74°)
Bot left: Pic of the new load of birch, some birch bark up front one end down in the hot coals to get fire going
Top R.: Pic of fire catching & getting flue & stove hot. Door closed
Top L. : Pic of wood burning good, door open
Top Mid; pic of door closed & bypass closed & getting hot. Stat on High
Bot R. : pic of stat down, (1.75 on my stove) cat glowing bright orange, fan on low, set for the night.
Good for another 24 hrs at these temps. 30°f outside, house temp now 74°, 2500 sq ft house. Stove in basement.
Smart thermostat set to turn the forced air blower on every 30 minutes for 5 minutes too move air around the house.

Great progression pics Dave. Thanks. Just hard for us guys with mere mortal stoves to get our heads around a true 24 hour burn. It is for me anyway.

You mean that bottom right is the way the stove runs all night?

What kind of stovetop temp, does it have at that time?

Thats a nice long burn

Geez Dave couldn't you squeeze some more wood in there?

Lovin it Dave am, I gonna have fun this winter.

Awesome Dave

You are really making me want to get one!!!

That's what I'm curious too. It doesn't look like it "burns"....and the fact the the heat from Cat is enough to keep wood smokes for 24 hours is amazing.

Gee...when will they have something similar to the Chinook for insert?

Cheers.....Som

Fixin' to lay some tile today. Maybe I'll have one of those burns next week.

That is awesome Dave. I am jealous. I get pumped when I can go 8hrs. :red:

+1...I think there's a small gap in the top right corner to squeeze one more in! :p

I still shake my head when I go down in the morning & check it & it's cranking out heat, I just walk back up stairs, look at the house thermometer & go do something else.
Hose is 70 right now, stove just a little red /orange glow coming off of it & lot of fuel in there still to burn.
I can't get over that I can put my bare hand on the stove pipe, amazing.
The blackened glass on low burns bother some, but mine is in the basement & I don't look at it all the time. Burn it hotter in cold weather & the glass is allot cleaner.
32°f, heavy snow, may turn to rain.

Yeah, that's what chopsticks are for: fill up those nooks and crannies!

Yes
With the flash, you can't see the glowing end & edges of the wood, Where it looks white, it is glowing like charcoal when you use it to grill.
The cat is glowing orange.
Here is the stove 12 -1/2 hours later & me laying my hand on the stove pipe.(which still amazes me, I mean it's pretty warm, but this is my bar hand)
I know I'm not supposed to open it up but wanted to show how much wood is left. It'' burn for another 12 or so hours & just have some hot coals left tonight.
The glass is blacker today but burning on low does that. When I burn hotter the middle 2/3 rds of glass is clean.

:)
I'm getting better, I found that some 3" & 4" rounds split fit well in the valley between the 1/2 round splits.
Then another layer of 1/2 rounds & then fill in the left & right corners then the middle & then use small pieces if there is room.
Some loads are tighter than others, this was a pretty good fitting load of straight splits.

Come on Dave. Weigh your next load - pretty please. I want to do a real life 'cyfer'in of the btu in compared to the btu out. I know, I know, sounds geeky.

I know, but it's cranking out heat.
It's not burning with flames, I"m not sure but is seems to make charcoal & burn the gasses.
If I burn hotter, I see flames for the first few hours then just glowing coals for the rest of the burn.
The cat is glowing hot & an amazing amount of heat is radiating of the stove. I have the fan kit & it helps regulate heat too.
I found for shoulder season, I can burn on low with no fan & get over 24 hrs of burn time & if I need a little more heat, I turn the fans on (like this burn) & get just enough het for temps of around 30 to 40° outside temps.

:)
Usually I have some 1" to 2" limbs to slide in there, I just used them up & need to bring in more. I do try to get it stuffed full.
It would be fuller if I had some of those nice straight grained square & rectangular splits i see in some wood shed.
My birch just don't grow big & straight :)

Dave - you got any idea of how many pounds of wood that load is??

I don't know. I have been wanting to weigh a load.
I might try to get a weight . This load was birch (my good wood)
7 good sized 1/2 round splits (6'' to 8" diameter), 2 more 1/4 splits, 1 in each bottom corner you can't see in the picture & some small stuff to fill in s best I could make it fit. 17" long.

Is this for real. They say my stove has an 18 hour burn. I all ways thought that was any hot coals left in the box. at max with no cat I can get 4 hours before I reload.

Is that a 24 hour burn from birch?

That rather blows away anyone who moans about birch over here ;-)

Whew! I was beginning to think you had me on your "blocked" list.

I have never, ever said "Pretty Please" on this forum before and will not likely do it for the foreseeable future.

My wife already thinks I'm nuts, with all the wood processing, wood shed, new stove pipe,
Scrounging wood from neighbors, right of ways & road sides.
When I steal the bathroom scales to weight how much fire wood I load into the stove;
she won't have any doubts & will be calling the looney squad. :lol LOL.
I'd like to know myself, so I'll try to get a weight as close as I can.
Your gonna have to visit me in the Looney farm :)
