Opening a window will establish if you have significant negative pressure in the house - if air is rushing in, then with the window closed, it might be backdrafting down your exhaust pipes. Fans, dryers, and other combustion appliances will compete for the air inside your house - an something like a dryer has a remarkable ability to create a negative pressure while it is running if this house is really tight.
 
Im going to try cracking a window next time iI fire it up and see what happens. Thankfully it was in the mid 40s today so didnt need any heat.
