I'm having a Lopi Flush Wood insert (http://www.lopistoves.com/product-detail.aspx?model=340) installed in a few days and I need some "best practices" concerning electrical installation. I would like to run the blower circuit down through the ash trap to a circuit in the basement, however Lopi's High-Temperature Wood Insert Wiring Kit (http://avalonfirestyles.com/TravisDocs/17601776.pdf) comes with only 10ft of BX cable,

but I'll need more than that for this run. Can I simply place a steel junction box in the back of the fireplace to terminate the BX cable from the blower, then run BX down the ash trap?

I'm also having the GreenStart system installed, so that could also connect to the J-box. Interestingly, the GreenStart device appears intended to be hardwired, but does not come with BX cable.

Is BX always required inside the fireplace?

Thanks,

Kyle

BX is not required in the fire box. every type of wiring method has its drawbacks. the BX or MC cable that comes in the kit covers the manufacture against physical damage risk and varying codes in different jurisdictions. I would use a weatherproof Bell box as a j box and a section of seal tight or carflex to go down the ash dump. Good luck kc, Master Electrician

I'd use BX or flex conduit and pull THHN wires.
