Chimney weight support when offset

For a perfectly straight chimney pipe, obviously the weight is all on the fireplace/stove, but what if you have to install a slight offset to clear a rafter? should the offset be as low as possible or as high as possible. Will this cause a problem? It seems the supports/tie straps only prevent the pipe from moving sideways but don't provide any support of it's weight. Input would be appreciated
 
Duratech recommends strapping it to a nearby framing member.
