How difficult is it to clean a Whitfield ?

You need a shop vac and a leaf blower.
Vacuum any ash from inside the firebox and from behind the three "firebrick" panels. The panels come out when you remove the two sheet metal panels on either side of the firebox, the sheet metal panels are each attached by two screws.

Put everything back together and with the fire box door ajar, place the suction of an electric leaf blower over the end of the exhaust vent and turn it on until ash stops coming out. You may have to make an adapter from the end of the exhaust vent to the suction of the leaf blower, I made one from cardboard, but you may have to get creative with PVC plumbing fittings, depending on the kind of vent and leaf blower you have.

I give my stoves the leaf blower treatment after every ton of pellets burned and vacuum out the fire box weekly, during the heating season.
