It's amazing what can be done today.

Humans still have to tell the machine where a certain tool is located, where to use each tool & when that tool is needed. Not to mention replacing worn or broken tooling. I did some Machine Tool Programming in a previous life & it’s amazing what configurations can be achieved.

We got a combination CNC Plasma Pipe and Plate cutter at work a couple years ago. It's amazing how much work you can do with that machine. We've been cutting "Firetubes" for large oil treater and line heater burners. Basically a large U-Tube made from 24" x 1/2" wall pipe with 22.5 degree cuts to make 4 45 degree joints. Takes a welder about a day and a half to make all those cuts. We're doing them all on the machine in under 2 hrs, and they fit absolutely perfectly for welding once complete.
