Yes (tho my ash ash a little more grooves in the bark). The last two pics and the brown debarked ones do not look like ash to me.

I agree. I think it's elm too. I've seen a lot of dead elm with the bark coming off, and that is exactly what it looks like. Also, even though the bark is similar on ash and elm, this bark looks more like elm than ash to me.

I might have been hasty (thought I was looking at characteristic fan pattern of elm borer in pic 1).
Look for branch habit. If its opposite it's definitely not elm, and probably ash.
Does the bore damage look like this:
elm bark beetle damage
, or major like this:
EAB borer damage
Look for shape of borer hole. If D-shaped, then EAB (ash).
Ash usually splits easy, elm very tough. A pic of split wood would help too (small bit of split wood at bottom of cut in image two looks more like ash).

How many different trees are we seeing in the pics there?
After moving some of my stash around this weekend, I realized that the first 2 or 3 pics also look a lot like some dead standin Box Elder that I have too...don't see any of the telltale red streaks though...

Some pics (second to last) look a lot like the locust I cut up last year, but some of the branch pics look just like the elms that are dying in my woods. Two different trees maybe? I don't see ash at all.

It looks like locust. I don't know about up there in Yankeeland, but down here the locust blight swept through, 20 years ago, and killed all the locust trees. If you have one left it is dead standing.
