Check this out, Exhaust Fan blades after about 10 bags of pellets, (clean out tee had as much soot as I would see after a ton of pellets)
I got curious after reading the post (black glass on pellet stove) and an other thread were macman and Mike were talking about coating the exhaust blades with a graphite type spray.
Anyway this was after about 10 bags of pellets running on settings 1/2 2/3 with bottom 3 buttons at 5/4/1 on a fully cleaned stove and pipes and these blades in October,
Stove pulls a good flame is only on its 4 ton of pellets I do not believe there are any gasket leaks.
Thinking I may need to change the low are setting to 5? for 5/5/1 lower 3 button setting? or maybe lower 5/3/1 to keep ash and soot out of pipes and in stove?
Stove pulls its own good natural draft, (power went out yesterday and still had a good flame and no smoke entered the home)
Maybe the combination of a strong draft and factory low air setting is actually pulling top much ash and soot out?
Any ideas?

looks normal to me.
all fly ash passes threw the blower so you are going to get some attached to the blades.
cant tell but if it is real black then you have an air problem but normal gray is just fine

It is black ash pic is not correct color sorry it was the only pic I could post , it is black as coal.

this is a dirty blower but the build up and color is normal
if you have black then you have lack of combustion air.

start from the beginning and clean and check everything

OK, Cleaned her up and tightened hopper lid and bumped up air 1 setting.

You might want to lower the LFF to 4. Less pellets + more air= cleaner burn on low settings 1 & 2. just my opinion.

Hey Macman, Is the avatar a picture of you?
Yes (unfortunately)...LOL Sydney called my bluff. She wanted me to post a pic, but i said not until SHE did......so she did ( I wonder if I was snookered and that's a pic of her sister or something? :red: )....

BUT, it's only up there until 7:40....then it's back to Curly.

LOL.. My wife said that you are a handsome devil. Scary enough i have spoken to her about you. How you live on the other side of the river. LOL.

Trying 5/5/1 vs 5/4/1 for now keep you posted, this time of year is tough heating even on low house gets hot, need some teens to unleash the full BTU fury of these stoves.

Try lowering the LFF to 4 or 3 and see if it will still burn......less pellets, less heat. I know my stove is different, but I'm on 1-4-1 right now.

Hey Curly is back, and I have turned into a "well no sure what it is"
Been runnig at LLF at 4 on the last 10 bags stove won't burn to good on LLF 3
I think LLF 4 was sooting it up (to small and cooler fire = more soot) maybe? not sure,
Trying 5/5/1 at 1/2 tonight and the stove is hot and 74 in 24 X 16 living room with 16' plus ceiling,
Exaust pipe seemed very hot at 5/5/1 LLA
Maybe its the pellets,?

Yep, Curly is back.....my real pic is enough to scare anyone....LOL.

As for my suggestion, I thought lowering the LFF on your stove would effectively change the air/fuel ration to a leaner burn (hotter) and use less pellets at the same time. My 10-cpm starts from the factory at 1-1-1, but the burn on heat settings 1 & 2 was "lazy", so I slowly bumped the air up to where I am now, 1-4-1, and it seems to be good.

I'm going to try 1-5-1 Tues. when the temps are supposed to start going down here....see how long I can keep the stove on 1 or 2 and the house warm.

LOL, LFF , LAB hmm lots to fiddle with here,
Attempting to raise LBA I guess is the correct term, Low burn air to make the burn leaner, unlike me haa, chop chop!
ok the volvo exhaust has pretty much killed me even with a torch but I got the sucker off, with a few arm and finger burns!
