Yikes! a new record for a single day in January...85

If it's barely 10::F outside yes there is a chance your stove may not keep up with demand.

    "It never had problems before..."

then again we haven't seen 10::F for a week straight since 2009...how short our memories are

  6. Dang, how we'd LOVE to see 10 degrees Fahrenheit up here in Northern Maine/Canada. I think the high for today (and previous days) was 10 degrees below zero.

Yes, the HIGH for the day.

Most are just room heaters we push a little hard.

They are all room heaters we push too hard.

Then again, why make a 70k BTU room heater?

As soon as you call it a furnace, no one wants it in their living room!:)

    Hi Scott
I installed a 70 BTU West Point into a living room but if the heat setting is turned up above 3 to 4 or 5 the High Limit switch pops. Do you think the Hi Limit switch should be changed from 250 to 320, the next higher one?

The Santa Fe kept my shed at 70 Degs all night on less than a 1/2 bag of pellets! It went down to 5 Degrees outside! I just painted a stove and the paint dried real good!

You can always supplement with your oven for the kitchen. My kitchen will jump 10 degrees in less than an hour with the help of the oven(dont forget to open the oven door) ALso radiant heaters in bathrooms can give you 15- 20 degree boost, no need for a bigger furnace or wood stove just to make it through these unusual periods.

Another thing that people don't tell you when they sell you a pellet stove is the importance of using fans close to the floor and blowing cold air out of the room you want heated. It makes a 5 degree difference when I do that. Don't forget that suggestion when people call and complain about the cold!

Cookies and hot soup. Always a winner around here. Oven toasted garlic cheesy bread and spaghetti, see where I am going? Oven and stove top without waste!

The spaghetti will make a 3-way win by adding humidity.

We cleaned the (self cleaning ) oven yesterday. Its a 4 hour process at 600 deg or more that makes a lot of heat in the kitchen so you dont want to do it in the summer. My cue to do it is the coldest day of the season,so no waste there.

If I owned a stove that couldn't keep my house warm with 10* temps outside I'd be lobbing that hunk of chit out the door!

My back rooms will start getting cold when it's -25* out, but it's an airflow limit, not a stove limit.

I have wondered how long an oven could run before carbon monoxide becomes an issue? I know a family that never died from trying to use one to heat when the power was out.
