I have a opportunity to sell some of my firewood, it is cut and split , I know that cord wood is 4x4x8 ( 128 sqft) but I was always under the assumption that when wood is split, a cord is 3x4x8. . I have roughly around 4 cord that is plied up, not stacked.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

A cord is defined as only split wood. 128 cu feet

I'm not sure what the question is, but a cord of split firewood is still 128cubic feet.

Perhaps you are referring to the fact that green stacks of firewood will shrink roughly 10% during the drying process? But no matter what - a cord is 128 cu. ft. of tightly stacked wood.

4x4x8 stack tight is a cord.

What you might be thinking is that it's 3 rows - 4x8 - that is if it's 16" logs. - 16 x 3 = 48 inches.

Also, If you're delivering I'll buy.

To me this is the only true cord . . .

A goose is a goose
Dress it as you will
But it remains a goose still.

Same with a cord of wood.

I too, started selling wood, albeit on a small scale. I built some wood racks out oof scrap lumber. I build them to hold 1/3 cord which is an ideal amount to haul in my p-u truck. Most of my clients are "occasional" burners so 1/3 cord may last them through the winter.

I never give them marginal wood and always give them a few cu. feet more than 1/3 cord. Stacking is done at no extra charge. I expect a lot of repeat business, next year.

If he wanted to be a bad craigslister, then he wouldn't have asked here first!

Thank you all for your replies..

No, I am not going to be a bad Craig's Lister !!! ( Thanks Dano) I have burned wood since I has a kid. I have never sold any wood before. . I was just asking a simple question .
I got the Info from some one who use to sell wood part time, years ( 30+) ago. That is why I came here.
I am not out to screw anyone, or looking to sell wood even part time, I had some my yard that was in pile cut and split. Some one ( I knew) contacted me to see I was interested in selling a few cords.

Jeff that post wasn't meant as a slam.. Sorry if I offended you.

a cord is 128 cu feet by definition

in too many places a cord is short

and I've heard the 10% loss by seasoning and 5 % loss from cutting BS the few times I bought wood.
sell me a real cord for a fair price and both of us will be happy.
course, I'm not most people, so who knows what you can get away with.

I do know one landscaper that sells his felled wood. It's not the best seasoned wood, imo, but he sells a cord.
At least he cuts and splits it as he gets it and it doesn't sit very long in rounds or logs, so it's better seasoned than some.
128 cu ft. His wood is usually gone by mid-November.
