HI hearth members I would like some feedback on what you think, Lastnight I had a fire and my stove top temp reached 800 degrees, had me a little concerned but not much. As I monitored the stove I was thinking that this may not be reason for too much concern because after all six inches below the thermometer is six ash splits and a hell of a secondary burn going on and yes it is throwing a chit ton of heat now. I was thinking that the manual said 850 is considered an over fire but the manufacturer dosent say if that is stove top temp or flu temp. Im thinking even at 800 stove top temp my flu temp may be 500 or so. I am in a unique position as an insert owner because I I have a brass grate about 18 Inches above the insert where I can see my ss liner, Im thinking about pulling that grate off and figuring out a way to secure a thermometer to the liner so i could get a flu temp that way. So I guess my question is should I not be so concerned about stove top temp and be more concerned about flu temp?
