PineTop Arizona.
Just as the title describes, what is the burning characteristic differences between soft and hard wood pellets?

Pine has a lighter ash, a bit hotter. Great for the fancy Italian stoves.

Yes, he did. Softwoods are better suited for stoves that use a burn pot, as opposed to a burn plate. Softwood ash is a bit lighter, and carries out of a burn pot easier vs. hardwood species.

re: "burn profiles" - it really depends on the individual stove, the rated BTU of the pellet, what species of wood, and amount of ash generated, to adjust the stove's combustion air to burn a particular brand of pellet well.

Lots of different brands, and reviews, in the https://www.hearth.com/talk/forums/2015-16-pellet-fuel-reviews-opinions-questions.44/ section of the forum.

I have generally found softwood to be a bit stickier than hard, although lighter in weight, I agree. Good hardwoods produce ash that is closer to sand (not that heavy or coarse, but more so than softwood ash). I find hardwood easier to clean, but that's a personal preference..
