Question:
I have been told that I cannot install a wood stove vented by my existing double-walled prefab fireplace chimney pipe; that I would have to de-install the double-walled chimney and install a triple-walled chimney pipe in its place. Is this correct?
Answer:
This is not correct...but it's close...there are a couple of stoves on the market that are legal to install into prefabs "as they are" .
<p>
It is my opinion that such an installation would be better and safer if a single wall stainless steel liner is placed inside the existing chimney.
