im starting to tackle the 4ft section that is above grade and insulating it, then spray foam the rim joists.

im stumped as to how i would secure the foam board to the brick, i will not be finishing off the basement
 
canned foam would expand my walls, but i get what your saying, i could used that after leaving a space at the bottom

but i would like to leave it flush with the concrete below
 
Check local fire codes. Exposed foam can light up in a hurry. It may not pass in your area.
