    Anybody know how to get to the primary air contol in the 550? Would like to check to see its closing all the way.

    you have to pull the face plate.... i think its 4 bolts on the inside of the faceplate. if you open the load door you should be able to get to them.

    jotulguy, if I get the face plate off I'm guessing there are a couple grates that line up to open and close the air? Is the primary intended to shut completly? Sorry but the manual is practically no help.

    No it is not. All if the secondary non-cat stoves allow a little air in even when fully closed.

    OK double checking, maybe I can adjust a bit going through wood a little faster than I think I should.

    How tall is your chimney? Perhaps that is what is causing a lot of draft?

    Pretty tall, like 26'. Not insulated though so can sometimes struggle on startup.
