Thanks for all the great help! I think it's the cement up the sides of the grate
as the fire burns up the grate with a "smile" the sides of which reach the hopper - I
must not have used enough cement last year. Also going to have an expert check
the draft and any holes or lack of gaskets near the hopper. I'm still typing this in
the cold but now I have a plan..................thanks to all of you! Kola
