locking band help

does anyone know if the locking bands they sell at lowes for the selkirk supervent will work with my duratech chimney ? i got 2 bands (supervent)and they don't seem to want to go around both humps on each side of the pipe , kinda wants to go on crooked. reason i asked is because i looked on youtube and there is a salesman installing some (duratech bands) in a video and his look the same ? anyone have any insight if they are generally all the same thing or ?....

i got the 2 lowes bands (supervent) , i would have to drive 45 minutes 1 way to get the duratech bands.

Usually parts from a different pipe system don't macth. But the good news is, nless there are elbows on the Duravent, you probably don't need the locking bands. Both our Duravent chimneys are without bands. I would either leave it as is or order them online and install them in a week or so when they arrive.

Unfortunately, hindsight is 20/20...
I too would order the right ones. If you aren't dealing with offsets, you should be okay until your bands arrive. For anyone else planning an install, get the chimney manufacturer's install instructions and thoroughly review, study, and understand them before you buy anything. Many dealers don't even stock such parts as adaptors, bands, roof braces, snow wedges, etc. All the stuff the chimney makers make and sell has a purpose, and when dealing with fire inside your home it is prudent to get it exactly right. Period. Also, if not properly installed, the insurance company may not pay up in event of a problem. If the sales person says "huh?" or can't answer any of your questions after aforementioned course of study, or says "that's not important", take your business elsewhere. Presumaby, your loved ones are worth your being certain that the system is installed correctly...

ok i went ahead and ordered the 2 right duratech locking bands i needed online the day i posted this , and in the meantime i also got 2 from lowes , the selkirk super vent ones. those are not compatible with the simpson duratech chimney . I got the right ones in the mail today and they work great.

on a side note im glad i did get them today , with all the wind we've had here lately ; the top section of pipe started to unlock by about 1/4 turn.

with the bands inplace and tightened down it does seem alot more secure now. and i have more piece of mind !
