Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.
We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.
We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
Hard to tell from that distance. Left side is definitely a hardwood. The other will make good shoulder season wood either way. Never turn down free wood!
Left looks like cherry to me, from the color of the wood to the bark, dries extremely fast once CSS. The right? Idk too far away to tell, maybe norway maple or tulip poplar? not sure.
Thanks for the feedback, if only the OP on craigslist was as responsive! In other news I did contact a new hookup that i'll be able to take what I can tomorrow...black locust? http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/zip/4702028484.html
If a tell tale sign of elm is water gushing out while splitting then it's most definitely elm. Unfortunately the guy with the cherry never got back to me
