Hello everyone I am new here and I saw some threads with my same questing but I still need some help, I am looking at installing a king 40 wood stove this spring and I want to hook it up to my existing brick chimney that has a 6inch hole already into the chimney that looks like is lined with clay. So my question is so I need to run a stainless style liner in my chimney. I currently am running my coal stove that is hooked up to the same chimney right now. I checked it all and I don’t see any cracks in the clay. Also the wood stove will be going in my basement heating a 2400 sq ft house that is including basement. Any help will be much appreciated

The Blaze King KE40 needs an 8" liner and it should be insulated.

I did not know that thanks. I will look into the king princess stove
The princess will also work best with an insulated liner but it needs a 6" which can fit if the clay tiles are removed

Codewise the chimney needs a 1" gap between it and the house. Is that gap there beneath the side trim?

Performance wise the cold exterior chimney is an invitation for creosote buildup with the Princess. It runs a cooler exhaust temp than non-cats. When the flue gas temps drop below 250º they start to condense on the colder clay tiles. Coal does not have this issue.

I have a 2 1/2 inch gap from the chimney to the house beneath the side trim also here is a couple pics on the width of the chimney on top and the inside

So best way is to take out all the clay and run insulation
Absolutely. If you have that 2.5" you don't need insulation for code. But it will work much better

Thank you for the help. Do you know any websites where I can find the insulation?
These folks can help you out.
