Hello,
We bought a 150 year old house with a narrow chimney. The size is 5” by 20” wide. My wife and I really want to install a wood stove. She grew up with one and I grew up splitting wood with my grandfather every summer for his. What we have to work with is pretty narrow. My question is would I be able to get a 4” ovalized liner down this chimney? Since it’s an old house and there is no guarantee that the framing isn’t touching the brick chimney I’m guessing it should be insulated? And in that case would need 1/2” to make zero clearance. Would it be possible to do a 4” ovalized liner and then pour down insulation after it’s installed?

Does it taper all the way up and only 5x20 at the top? If so, the top could be enlarged a bit. Duraliner oval is 4 3/4" x 7 3/4". This is a fully insulated liner system so no need to pour afterward.

The chimney needs a thorough cleaning before installing. How tall is this chimney?

Thanks for the reply. I removed a brick in our attic to get a look inside so the 5” is toward the top of the chimney and looks to be the same dimensions all the way down. As it exits the house it gets bigger. Very tall chimney, 35 feet +.
