When I jumped on the insert bandwagon (after of 3 years of burning in an open fireplace) my wife was a little hesitant too, but I got her involved in picking the right one out... which to her meant the prettiest one, but now she loves it. She also was concerned about getting too hot, but as BB stated with the fan running and the cool air moving to the insert it never gets too hot in our basement family room.
Newbie here. Help me convince my wife we need an insert!
