Hi all, longtime reader but first post here. Need some advice on another stove for my 2800 sq ft home. Currently have an isle royale on one end of my L shaped 2800 sq ft home. It keeps the living and dining room where it is on one end of the L plenty warm and the kitchen in the middle of the house also stays in the 70's. Problem is the far living room and the bedrooms which are on the second level above the kitchen/far living room only warm up to around 60 or even low 50's if its in the -10 or -20 degree range like its going to be this wknd. Not warm enough for us especially with a new baby. So while the quad cranks out some serious heat it's time to add another stove. Thinking of a medium sized stove in the far living room. Any opinions on how that might work would be much appreciated. The stairs to the upstairs go up between the far living room and kitchen. Also not sure how or if I can run class A pipe up through the master bedroom to the roof. Thanks

Welcome ash. Yes you can run class A up through the MBR. It will need to be boxed in a chase, but this is not uncommon. Two stoves in a big house can help.

Is the wall where you are going to put the stove an outside wall? If you don't want to sacrifice living space you can go through the wall and up on the outside of the house. Depending on taste the outside pipe can be either just the bare stainless or you can build a chase around it.

Thanks Jim and Jaq. Stove will have to go on an outside wall and do to window spacing and a 9ft window upstairs it will have to go in a corner. Space is not really an issue and also for looks would rather have the pipe inside.

We had a simular problem getting heat thru the living room back to the porch area . I put a 220 base board electric heater in the room and it works great.
BTW. How cold is it in Northern MN. 5 degrees in the cities at 1230P

While your figuring out what you want to do, have you tried using a fan to blow the cooler air into the heated rooms? Many people have to do this to even the temps in thier house out.

Have used fans before but they only bump up the temp a couple of degrees so not quite enough. Jim, -8 at 5:30pm here and supposed to be 27 below by morning so it'll be a bit chilly here tonite.
