I hardly know anything about the performance of the original Vigilant Coal model with the gravity fed hopper; Craig or anyone else, care to comment and the performance and heat output?

Thanks!

I think they had a hopper at one time for the later model also.....

so to differentiate, the first model was a retrofit to the wood vigilant and had three rocker grates, while the newer model had grate "fingers" which slide back and forth front to rear. That one is, I think, known as the Vigilant II and was sold as a multi-fuel (coal and wood) and also coal (same as now).

The second model - current model - is a really nice stove. The first one belongs in the junk pile or converted back to Smoke Dragon wood status. That is the short and sweet.
