I've got a Regency I2400 and yesterday morning I had the firebox quite full and the secondary burn tubes ended up glowing red. The outside of the stove was, according to the ir thermometer, between 500f and 600f. Is this considered overfiring or is it OK for the secondary tubes to get red hot?

Secondary burn occurs with internal firebox temps at about a thousand degrees and steel starts glowing around 1100 or 1200 so you aren't overfiring. Now if the stove top starts glowing...

At a stove top temp of 600 your were likely kicking 1200 or so in the firebox. Normal.
