Overpriced!

I posted earlier about my 4 ton buy of Lignetics.
Here in the Pittsfield Ma area we have LP Adams Lumber co asking $320 a ton for Heartland pellets.
Last year I paid $300 (delivered)for them, a high price I know. To make things worse they weren`t as good as they had been in previous years.
If I was stuck with LP Adams as an only alternative, I`d seriously consider burning the oil instead .
At $300 a ton the Heartlands were barely worth it. At $320 a ton I think they are price gouging.

The P38 should burn about anything. Don't you have any big box stores nearby? I think I'd burn oil too at those prices.

I probably shouldn`t be bitching about a sellers price but $320 a ton simply just doesn`t seem anywhere near reasonable to me , Heartland`s or not..

ah, the capitalist system.....they can choose to sell at whatever cost they wish, you can choose to buy from whomever you wish...it just works. Dont think I'd pay that much for any pellet, given the plethora of options out there these days, but hey, to each his own!

I have yet to burn a $300 pellet that was actually $50 better than a $250 pellet.

It looks like there is a Home Depot in Pittsfield, MA - I would keep checking there over the summer for when they get their pellet shipments in. My experience has been that HD and Lowes run great specials later summer (Aug/Sept) which should beat what the lumber company is charging. The pellets are good pellets, not the best, but for the price they work just fine. Not sure how close to the NY border you are, but there are a few Lowes stores in NY near the border.

There will be some sticker shock this year. I have been hearing most big name pellet makers have a price increase coming. I am not sure what the Big Box stores will be selling but they buy bulk and with bad storage, sell cheap.

Yes there are a few other places to buy pellets here but Wal Mart, HD, and TSC do not deliver. We have Carr Hdwre that does deliver but I don`t like their Green Teams.
I need em delivered. I`ve no plans to buy a trailer or a truck to make multiple trips for pellets.

May want to check with HD. The local store here will deliver.

Maybe next year. I got more than I need for the coming winter.

You have to have a buddy with a truck. I find they usually work for beer or a nice steak on the grill.

First of all he would have to have a truck rated for a ton.
I guess with 2 guys unloading a pallet of pellets from the bed of a pickup wouldn`t be too bad but doing it alone would definitely be a pain.

price increase.... Fuel is dropping so trucking rates will fall as well... and there will be no justifcation with dust in high supply

A new F-150 can handle a full pallet. As for unload time with two guys, it takes about ten minutes. As a Master Chief I know it has been a while since you set down that coffee cup but it is time to roll up the sleeves and work, my friend.

All the more reason to buy a decent multifuel stove. Keep it clean, and you can deal with most any price range pellet. Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe next time!

We have a customer who comes in and loads his pellets (1 ton) into a toyota very scary to watch but he gets it done every year

I paid my dues long ago. However, you just keep YOUR sleeves rolled up , working hard and steady and be sure to pay your quarterly taxes and SS religiously so I can continue to reap the rewards of YOUR labor towards my generous military pension and SS checks.
Recently it was recommended to our gov`t that they raise the retirement age for SS to 70.
I`m there already , my friend.. Don`t blame me , somebody votes for those liberals in office . Had enough yet?

The "shock" may be to the pellet retailers trying to unload $300 + pellets if fuel oil keeps dropping.
Anyone remember 2008 ?

shocks work both ways.......oil prices seem to be very volatile in BOTH directions....yep, if the oil price stays low, or keeps going down, its going to be hard to sell those $300+ pellets (but I submit that price is an abberation), buuuut, if the oil price increases, the shock could be to the consumer. I dont think theres alot of downside to buying, if you think the price is currently right. Many pellet mills just arent building inventory these days, maybe for the same reason....the lowering cost of fuel. Could this portend a shortage this fall/winter when the procrastinators fall off the fence? Who knows? I sure dont.
