I'm seeing a lot of threads on here about online ordering of pellets and having them shipped to you. I recently bought pellets from my local dealer and a couple of bags on two different pallets were torn a little and were leaking pellets as he loaded them. He automatically told me to bring those bags back and he would replace them, which he did without any problems. Has anybody had this happen with these online bulk delivery sellers? How good are they at standing behind their products if you would get a ton with a few torn bags or were somehow affected by moisture?

8 tons so far from pelletsales.com and never had any broken
or damaged bags so can't comment on how they handle that one.
They are pretty straight shooters imo so you could always call
them and ask how they would handle it.

Thanks zeta. It wouldn't be worthwhile or feasible to return 1 or 2 broken bags. They seem to be a very good company to deal with. Pretty much all the tons I have purchased have been well wrapped and secured. However, at Home Depot this year they had a ton of pellets sitting in the store and it looked like half of them had gotten wet. I didn't know if anybody had that happen with the online retailers and needed their CS dept. that could comment on their experience.

I don't think pellet sales-com would stay in buiness long with shoddy quality control , look at the damage to Penningtons because of their lack of quality oversight, Muss

Good point, muss. That Pennington pellet QC problem was a disaster. However, as an outsider looking in, I would purchase from them based upon their aggressive attempts at correcting the situation and refunding monies with little hassle.

After speaking with them directly some time ago, this was my understanding.

Pelletsales will give you 10.00 off your order if someone else purchases pellets
from them using your referral code.

i spoke with the guys from their home office at the HPBA show (thanks to craig , who introduced me to them). i've been telling folks about it often especially with the late season and not as much availability. i dunno how many have followed through and ordered from them , but they gave me a green card with a number on it that i have told people to use when they order , i was assuming that it may allow a discount for the customer , doesnt do me any good as i get the bulk of my fuel through the plant but i told the guys at pelletsales that i would give out that number and maybe they could get an idea how much fuel would be sold on my recommendation.(wouldnt mind knowing that myself) i hope its doing them some good , they were very nice straightforward guys who seemed to have a great plan for getting fuel to the masses.

I dunno. I have given out my referral code
to half a dozen people who have all told me
that the code didn't change the price at all.
I've been telling people to call and give the
code instead. Maybe a glitch in the on line
    price quote form.

Yeah, getting in the car and using gas and time to replace two bags of pellets seems like a tough one.
I don't think a case can be made for the need to buy pellets from a specialty dealer. You buy they where ever the price and quality are the best. That, in the end, is best for the industry as a whole because lower prices = happier customers and more pellet stoves sold.

Happier customers = more pellet stoves bought = supply & demand = higher pellet prices ;-) Just my .02 :-/ Muss

Sorry bout my last .02's . It was very stupid of me to say something like that . Rather than take the reply off , i figured i would apologize to everyone & hope more people invest in pellet stoves . Sorry especially to Craig , Muss

Nothin to apologize about Muss. Supply and demand affects the pricing of every commodity.

I asked pelletsales about the referral code thing
    and here is their response:

When your friends put the code below the zip code, they won't see the
price difference but we will credit $10.00 per order when we bill the credit
card, or they can write it on the memo part of their check if that's how
    they pay.

That seems a little bass ackwards. Their site seems advanced enough that you should be able to see the accurate pricing and not have to figure out how much you should be charged. Plus, am I understanding it is $10.00 of the whole order and not $10.00 off per ton?

it may have to do with code verification. if there is a box there to fill in and somebody puts somthing in it if its automated it may not be able to confirm code in real time. i honestly do not know but the way to confirm would be to check your statement and see if it was reduced by the 10 bucks from the quoted price. odd though it may seem if it is credited then its credited no matter how it gets there.

It is $10 off the order, not per ton

When I bought my stove at the first of January....my dealer had a stack of those green cards for his customers that purchased stoves. They give you 10 dollars off with the number on it that you have to punch in when you order your pellets.
