With regard to wasting wood, I think begreen's comment was aimed at one poster, in particular. If you don't burn those coals down before this reload, you will prior to the next. There's no wasted wood... it's all BTU's going in, and BTU's coming out... only difference is when, and how rapidly.
 
Your lucky because catalyst temps that high that lead to warped castings in VC stoves...

Jotul 12 manual states that catalyst temp should not exceed 1800*
