Western ME
Hey everyone. GREAT forum, lots of knowledgeable people here. Great to see.
Just bought a central boiler and am hoping to do an install DIY.
At least at first, i am leaning towards direct plumbing it into the furnace and doing the storage as stage 2.
Can anyone recommend a model of control to allow me the set temps for hi and lo and where that goes on my existing system.
I have a normal OB with a tankless coil. Unless I dont understand the principles involved I can plumb the hot supply from the WB directly to the OB intake with a controller somewhere. Does the return out of OB go directly out to the WB? also, if the water in the WB is treated, do I absolutely need a heat exchanger to keep the treated water out of the DHW? Where is th eheat exchanger plumbed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!

I don't know alot about outside boilers but I will hazard a guess:

Is the boiler new? Did it come with an install manual? I am thinking you need to plumb the WB into a flat plate heat exchanger. It sounds like the WB is an "open system" and needs to be isolated from the rest of the system. If thats the case it would also need an auto refill valve somewhere.

Different types of installs:

You can use regular aqua-stats to control most anything. Unless you want a fancy control system aqua-stats will be the cheapest option. Use them to control circ pumps, dampers, etc... I assume the boiler came with some type of control built in?

I am only guessing so hopefully someone more knowledgeable with OWB installs will help out with some better info.
