you need 36" to combustibles with that unit, probably not a suitable hearth material either.
Keeps the bedrooms down the hall relatively warm, definitely fine sleeping temp. We've let it heat the house on a couple of evenings (it keeps the furnace from kicking in when it's burning) and the other parts of the house still feel fine; a bit cooler than with the furnace, but definitely still comfortable.
I've only been burning small hot fires so far; I've not tried a big fire yet, and I still need to hook up the blower, I'll know better for sure after I've tried those things =)
