This is my 1st year with the stove and I cleaned the stove and they sprayed it with Pam like many peopel recommend. I'm just not sure what is normal. I happened to look in my stove the other day and there is what looks like water in my ash pan. I touched it and it was greasy and looked like oil. I'm sure it's not oil and probably just the Pam that I sprayed. Upon further inspection I noticed the burn pot has the same greasy stuff on the inside and outside. Is this normal?

I do have damp rid in there.

Sounds like you've been using that greasy kids stuff.==c

It sounds like you really sprayed that stove with a lot of Pam. I did mine a few years ago but I just gave it a light coat inside the firebox and it was fine , no residue or oil anywhere. I would wipe up that greasy stuff with a rag before firing it up in the fall. I dont spray mine anymore, I use a new twist, I turn the stove on and let it run for about 10 minutes every few weeks to dry out any moisture thats in there and it seems to work very well. I pick a day when it's not too hot out, or evening, when the windows are open. It's only for a few minutes to dry up any moisture and that gets it all the way up the flue as well.

I just didn't clean mine at the end of the season and there is no rust last time I checked a small area.

Go easy with that stuff a little dab will do ya, just like the Brill Cream ad.

Well, what's done is done... I guess I'll be wiping it down this weekend.... and next year I want use so much. I didn't think I really used that much. Oh well. I'm just worried about fire hazard next year when I fire it up.

No worries about a Fire hazard.... Just lighly clean the excess and your Good to Go..

As Smokey said, a little goes a long way...

My Burnpot has a build up in the bottom. It will be clean within 5 minutes of the 1st fire this Fall ;) Thats my way of cleaning the excess! !!
