my 6" class A chimney was hooked to an oil furnace when I bought the house. The interior is coated with about a sixteenth of an inch of fine black soot from the furnace. I'm almost ready to connect my wood stove. Is there any special consideration for cleaning this as opposed to wood burning deposits?

YES!! Absolutely wear a respirator and protective gloves etc. Oil furnace soot has a high sulfur content which can become very acidic when it combines with moisture - such as in your lungs. You can do a lot of damage breathing that stuff. Also wash any tools afterward.

Hmmmmm...

or perhaps hire it out!

Ehouse, you should be able to do this easily and a whole lot cheaper.

Ok, sounds like a top down job though. Roof is 12 12 with no easy access.
