Prepping my stove for 2009-2010 season and the one primary goal is to get rid of a terrible friction issue with the side loading door on my EQ. The metal swing plate scrapes against the inside door facing and makes a screaching noise. It has done it from the first time I used it and it wakes up the wife when I load in the morning. It is a really annoying sound. Anybody have a similar issue and if so what did you do to remedy the situation?

graphite lube? That should take care of it.

My first thought as well . . . try some graphite?

I have used a small washer in between the two hinges that raises the door slightly and stops the rubbing and screaching.

is pencil lead made out of graphite?

yes it is , and it will work in a pinch.

to the OP , if the graphite doesnt work for long , pull the hinge pin and work on it for a bit with some mild steel wool, work horizontally , not up and down the shaft of the pin so any striations are in the direction of the movement of the door on th epinthen recoat with the graphite, should help it last longer for ya

The screeching issue is not hinge related. In the pics you can see the metal swing plate. It rubs against the inner door panel and makes a metal to metal high pitched screech. I placed a spacer to lift the swing plate but it does not allow me to tighten the two bolts ( the door will not close all the way). What do you think? Is high temp grease at the friction point gonna solve the issue?

I used a Nicholson mill bastard to file down high spots on my Jotul. Wasn't at all agressive and left a smooth finish.

I have the exact same problem and came here to hopefully find a cure. Guess I'll have to try a few things myself. I'll report back.... Good Gawd the screech is loud!
