I looked all over the IRS website for form for Energy Tax Credit for pellet or biomass fuel burning stoves and all I found was the old 2008 form 5695 and a draft copy of the 2009 form which was not for use, (dated July 9,2009). Does anyone have any more info on the form, and if it's still form 5695?
Maybe they're still working on it... (to be available at a later date).

Look on the website for your pellet stove manufacturer. Each one has the declaration there for you to download. You just keep it in your tax file. You don't send it in. There's nothing on it to fill out. I understand that there will be a place on your tax form to take the deduction. Just keep your receipts.

tjnamtiw, that's not what he's asking about. He's correctly asking about IRS form 5695, which seems to not have been finalized yet.

I use TurboTax, and the 2009 5695 form that I have so far has no provision for biomass burning appliances. I even checked for "updates" this morning, but nothing for that form has changed.

Unless there is someone out there that knows something different, there is no place to put the info.

Oh, thanks. I guess we have to ask Timothy Geithner what HE uses on his TurboTax for a pellet stove!!!!! %-P

Yeah, right. Don't even get me started!!! Oh, wait a minute...it was all a "mistake"......remember?

I think I'll use my TurboTax again this year, but I'll "forget" about 1/2 of my income.....think I'll get the same punishment HE got (none)? I think not.

What a crook.....and he's in charge of fixing the financial system in this country.

OK....I'm done w/ my rant.

If we have any tax specialists/preparers on the forum that know anything about this form, please chime in!

My wife insist's on H&R Blockheads. I will ask(bet I get a blank stair!) when we go to file.(2nd or 3rd week in January JFYI.)

Just a post to bump this back to the top....anyone here start their taxes and try to fill in Form 5695? I don't see anyplace on the worksheet to put in for a biomass burning device.

Don't we have at least ONE tax preparer,CPA, etc on the forum?

Thanks

I'm gonna use turbo tax as well, but I'm still waiting for my W2. I hope its done by then. Anyone bother calling the IRS?

Man, I would NEVER use those H&R idiots to even change a toilet roll. I used them once when I moved since the forms were more complex and I ended up telling the H&R guy how to do it!!! Total idiot. Never, ever again.

I think I know the answer to this but what date did the stove have to be installed in order to take the credit? Mine was installed in Sept of 2008 so I guess I'm probably SOL, which makes me a little bitter since I think the credit is for (I think) stoves installed after 2009, but I'll get over it I think.

Yep, you are SOL unless your eyesight is bad and you can't tell if it is an 8 or a 9 on your receipt....... ;-P

It's for stoves "....placed into service after Dec. 31, 2008...."

ENERGY STAR'S site, it's a secure site and they don't sell email addys. Nothing to it.
Edit: in order to register you enter your email two times and your finished!

Just did an "update" download for my 2009 TurboTax software, and the notes that come with it state that the Form 5695 that we need to claim the Energy Credit for new stove installs will not be available to use until 1/27/10.

Not sure if the IRS will have them before that on their website before that.

These people have had how long now to get these forms figured out??? And they want to run our health care, hahahahah that is just priceless

I'm sure Tim Geithner is working hard on it! Since the IRS left him not pay any penalty on the $34,000 he owed for SS and Medicare back taxes, he probably won't rock the boat and he'll do it himself. Better get Turbo Tax because it has the Geithner exemption for stupidity.........

I use Turbo Tax simply because of him. I'll just refer to his experience if/when the IRS catches me in a "error"

I don't see a reference for biomass stoves. I believe that is the old one waiting for someone to get off their ass and fix it.

Macman, you are a gentleman, a scholar, and fine judge of rum! Asking a bunch of guys to read directions????? COME ON!!!! If Geithner didn't read them,,,,,,,,,,,

I know, I know.......but I thought the fine people on this forum would be able to handle that w/o any problems.

Hey, I guess that means that we're smarter than 'ol Timmy boy.....can I have that idiot's job???? Must pay a couple hundred grand, right?

OH BOY...that means I could buy LOTS of Pellets! Okies, Bear Mtn, Barefoot, and Cubex, Oh My!!

In less than a year, there will be a whole lot of idiot's jobs available in Washington and, God willing, two years after that some really big idiot's jobs along with 50 czars' jobs.
