We go to bed around here at 8 PM, so the last load up of the stove is typically 7 PM. Having the fire loaded at that time, and leaving the furnace set on automatic, should it be needed in the early morning, off to bed I went.
My "typical" rising time is 3:45 AM, and if the dogs sense that I'm gonna be late, they make sure to come by and wake me, much to my appreciation of course!
This morning was no different. Since it is "winter" and the wood stove comes into the morning "chore" routine these days, I went down, stoked the ash bed, (of course I noted a few lit sparkles in the process), built up my typical fire start, closed the door and decided to light the match after I had my shower.
I ate breakfast, went outside for my morning cup of coffee and a cigarette, and when I came back in, lo and behold, the fire was already going!! "Of course," I said to myself, "the sparks caught on the newspaper," and indeed they had.
This is typical, I'm sure.........but it WAS a bit of a surprise, none the less.
