Instead of concentrating on the stove or the choice of pellets during the recent "deep freeze", we took notice of all the glass surfaces around our house. We begun hanging insulated drapes over two picture windows and the slider. Pay off was when I ran the Castille overnight on low, temps outside either side of zero and the pellets were Stove Chow. Woke up to a 68 degree house. Used about 1/3 bag of pellets in 9 hours of run time. Also took care of some drafts around the front and back door. Lesson: Don't overlook the obvious

Agree Have a storm door for the back..just need a semi warm day to install it.

My stove is located in a sunroom with six, six foot wide windows and a sliider. Next winter I'll be putting plastic film over the windows.

We are beyond the 20 year mark for our windows and doors and it is obvious. We have to do some foundation work first before we start replacing windows next summer. Removing our dual sliding doors on the front (lake side) to replace with windows and moving door to the west side of the house in place of a large window - less exposure to the cold north wind. We've always had cold drafts due to the sliders. We're also reconfiguring the stairs so we can install the second Elena for next winter. Full on construction mode next summer....

I also did the same. Its been cold many times but the WIND was the difference. Caulked the gap under the exterior wall baseboard in the half bath. HUGE difference. I had done other areas in years passed and still need to do a few more areas.

Another area I addressed was a hydronic heater under my kitchen sink base cabinet. A quick shot with an IR thermometer showed 48F tile temps directly in front of the heater. Lifted the floor board inside the cabinet box to gain access to the heater area. Sure enough, unsealed plumbing and electrical penetrations. Also the gap under the drywall/in front of the bottom plate was addressed. That's all foamed up now. Night and day difference.

Wish I could go back to when I had the house built and air seal properly.

The devil is most definitely in the details.
