Long day at work, damp and chilly outside, no grilled or light summer foods tonight. Chicken gravy and biscuits (and a few beers) are just what it took to make the world right for me today.

What has everyone else been making?

In pie crust I use lard (or for frying potatoes). In biscuits I make out best if I use very cold straight butter.

Can't beat lard in general though. Despite it's poor reputation, it's about 1/2 the saturated fat of butter and has no trans fats. Not sayin' it's health food, but I'm not downing it daily either. Definitely underutilized IMO.

Looks Great! If my outer layer gets any thicker, I won't need a coat.

For lunch today I made a chicken vegetable soup with lentils, barley, amish noodles, tortellini and shredded parm cheese on top. A hunk of fresh french bread, not made by me,
and a Sam lager to wash it down. Heading for a second bowl soon. It is raw 50::F outside with an northeasterly wind off the ocean. Steady drizzle too, with a small fire going to chase the chill.

Well, gosh, let's see. Oh yeah, just the other day I made the trip over to the pizza place to pick up my order. Heck, I make stuff like that all the time. Leftovers will be gone this evening, so time to make another trip.
