I took a second look at the info in that link. All the hickory varieties it mentions are described as having pairs of leaves and one terminating leaf. That is not what the tree in question has. I went out and got another close-up of the leaves. Any other opinions on what this tree could be?

The leaf margin looks double-serrate, so now thinking either Ostrya virginiana (but bark not stringy), or Ulmus alata (winged elm) something we don't see much in Ohio. Leaning toward elm.
Look for fruit: elm - single round samara; hop hornbeam - hop-like fruiting clusters.
Close-up of leaf top & bottom ?
