Where to put the temp guage on an Engleander 30

where is the best place to put the temp guage on the Englander 30. On top above the door or on the side. Back by the stove pipe on top the stove.
 
The hot spot on mine seems to be about 3" infront of the stove pipe. I don't have a temperature gauge but that is where I check with the IR gun, and it always seems to be the hottest.

Yep. That is the spot.
