Why do alerts only work some of the time?

    I usually get alerts from any thread I started or post a response in. But I have noticed others responding to threads and I did not get an alert on it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Anyone know why?

    I think if you don't go back to a thread after you have gotten one alert, you may not get more?
