Wood I.D.

    Went for a walk searching for hardwood and found some trees down, do you think this is a small ash or basswood.

    Western VA Mtns.
    looks more like ash to me.

    basswood has furrowed bark also, but basswood bark tends to look a little flatter/smoother on the surface than ash.
