Hell All,

New to the forum here. Cut down this tree last year can't seem to identify it. Any ideas if I got any good firewood here?

Thanks!

Zelkova - It's in the elm family so burns like elm.

Good call on the Chinese elm. Thought it was in southern africa or something.
Ive only seen tree growth like that in West Indies.
The crotch might be good for a coffee table.

Not too bad to split when you get a straight stretch, but it does stink when green.
Japanese zelkova (Zelkova serrata) is a fairly common, urban tough, hardy, landscape tree with no serious insect or disease problems and nice consistent fall color (reds - oranges - purples) with steady growth. It's available in a wide variety of forms from very upright to broad vase-shaped, with couple varieties compatible for planting beneath overhead utilities.
