I have a 1993 whitfeild pellet stove which has a knob for damper control and a knob for feed control. Can anyone tell me where my settings should be and why glass is black after about 4hrs burn time... First time owning a pellet stove.

First things first:
GET THOSE F***ING COMBUSTIBLES AWAY FROM THE STOVE.
Second:
You have the pellet feed cranked. Too much fuel and not enough air will cause black glass.

Your kidding right? Sorry to say this but a little common sense goes a long way. Remove anything near your stove that will catch fire and burn your house down, maybe a stove is not for you.
Start with that curtain/blind hanging right behind your stove. Then make sure you follow all of the clearance in your manual! And if you do not have a manual, please go to Whitfield's webpage and you can download one for your pellet stove model. Remember your pellet stove is a "Burning fire" In your home, treat it as such!

Turn your feed rate down a little at a time untill you get a nice busy bright yelow/orange flame. Orange/dark flame is a poor burn and will soot up everything. Now i would shut the stove down and clean it real good, then fire back up and adjust your flame.
We clean this stove every other day just can't seem to find the right settings no matter what.... Even had some what of an expert look at it and they're stumped to
Just wondering how that passed inspection with the curtain being able to be moved that close to the stove. Also looks like the hearth pad is moved most of the way to one side probably not giving the proper amount of coverage to that side. If you are getting attitude its because these are not toys and just as dangerous as a wood stove. No one would like to see a post where a fire happened and you were injured or worse.. Have a good read of yoour manual and make sure your in spec and safe

OK we want everone to be safe during the heating seasons. Pointing out possible problems with installs but to harp about them isn’t productive it could be embarrassing to some. Not everyone can afford to do everything all at once. Is that safe? Probably not but it may be a choice of heating of freezing. A lot of things go on that are not inspected or approved by our govt officials or insurance co. I’m sure everyone on this forum has a skeleton. Hopefully they follow our advice and Fix the discrepancies. So lets just point out the problem and move on to guiding the folks to repair thier stoves and stay warm.

lol, no attitude here just tired of seeing people on the news about their house burning down because of carelessness. This forum is here to help eachother and learn don't blame me pal you posted the picture not me.
