Ok so just want to start by saying that all the people here have been so helpful and thank you all for that

I had a fireplace company come to inspect the stove (1980 russo 2cwc) that I'm installing just to make sure it was all good and safe being the fact that i have 3 children here... I also wanted to make sure that the location i am putting this in was ok and going to be good for code and what not...

Now the stove says that it needs a 36'' clearance from left and right and back but I'm installing this in a corner and he says i only need 13 inches from the corner of stove to combustable wall and that i don't even have to do anything to the walls
I will be building a stone floor for it and he says thats all you have to do
Does this sound right to all of you? I mean this guy has been in business for a long time and thats why i ask him to come by but something just doesn't feel right with those numbers....

Please let me know what you all think ,,
thanks
john

I rotated the pic for you R.

36" in all directions unless there is a proper ventilated, NFPA wall shield in place on each wall.

ok thanks ,,,, i know, i have the manual as well and read the same thing thats why i don't understand why this guy thats been in business for so long tell me that i don't need to do anything to the walls... the corners of this stove will only be 13inches from combustable surface with is why i need to do the 1 inch air gap........ now for the floor, it says in the manual that i need to have the same k value of 3/8 asbestos does anyone know how much durock i need to use

Asbestos cemet board is an r value of .25 per 1/2in. Durock is like .39 r value for 1/2in cemet board

Use 1/2" Durock NexGen and cover it with something like metal, tile, or bricks. You can make a quick wall shield with the Durock as well. For 1" shims, score 3" x 30" strips and snap them off the end. Then double up these shims to make 1" firring strips and screw them to the studs as spacers. Then screw the Durock sheet, 1" above the hearth to the shims using 2.5" or 3" screws. Or just hang some sheet metal on the shims.
