16/17 and with luck, some 17/18

This acquisition season has been good, with a few challenges. Silly chainsaw issues and a replacement splitter were a setback, but I enlisted a really smart BIL for some help and he caught on immediately and I got caught up and ahead.

I may be burning two year old wood for the first time. Anyway, here goes.
This is close to 4.5 cords maxed out, but it's my estimate for me, so I'm entitled to be a little optimistic.
Ash, black locust, honey locust, osage, white oak and cherry. The front course was standing dead ash but I think it'll be ready for this winter.


Same blend as above with some mulberry. 2 cords.


And this was standing dead bur-oak that fell in my yard. Plus some more of that ash. 2 more cords. The rack is 40' long, 5' tall, and I split at 16".


I've never had it so good. I've got plenty of un-splittable (for me) stuff scattered around, but every practical thing on the property is split. Now I've got a few empty pallets to fill, and the only thing I'm missing is the emergency it usually is!!

Every last stick! The first splitter did similar amounts for 4 years before it broke. I quarter the rounds and put a relief cut in the tough pieces with the saw.

That cracked me up. Years ago I walked into my boss's office and remarked about the ugly picture that office services had stuck him with on the wall of his office. He frowned and said "My daughter painted that in her Cubist period.". Whoops!

That dude is thinking "Everyone's a critic!". Sometimes the truth hurts. I remember it struck me when a fellow said that because he own clubs doesn't mean he's a good golfer. That sure doesn't mean folks can't enjoy something, but there's a difference between golf, and art, music and karaoke. Golf has a scoring system!!

And that's why I don't play golf...
