2 More tons.... with pics....

So I rented the Home Depot truck and hauled 2 tons to my house and unloaded them all by myself .... though the GF did offer to help....
If your thinking of doing this here's some points to consider or ponder or think about or ignore......


**rental costs about $40 for the appx 2 hours use and the pellets were $376 soo $410 for 2 tons is pretty good.

**I do get 10% off so your price maybe more though there are 10% coupons floating around if you look

**A strong back is required for this delivery method.

**Also the Max that the HD truck I used can haul is 3000LBS (i assume they are all the same) so 2 tons at once would be easier/quicker but not doable.

**In the future if I do this I will go 3 tons and still make the 2 trips.

**the pallets do slide around on the truck so secure them.

**as always make sure you check your pallet for the brand you want because to HD pellets are pellets.

They dropped them on with the fork lift and yes i think it is. We were looking for something called the "Snow Hole" (snow year round) near the NY/MASS border. It's a cool hike never did find the snow hole but she'll remember the hike for the rest of her life because we had a great time. ; )

Would they have loaded the two tons at once if you asked? I had the same problem when i got my first two tons. My dad's flatbed trailer is rated at 3000 lbs so I only could do one ton at a time. This time I am borrowing my cousins tandem axle car trailer so that should have no problem. I will be pushing the limits of my diesel jeep liberty though.

No but depends on the individual. I don't think it would have been a problem if it weren't for the sticker on the truck saying MAX LOAD 3000LBS or whatever.

I think that for 65 bucks they will deliver as many tons as you need. Thats the way to go! They come wrapped so you can take your time. I had them deliver 3 tons and my snow blower for $65 bucks.

Agreed, take Home Depot up on the $65 flat rate delivery fee unless you are only throwing a ton or less on your own vehicle. They deliver on a flatbed with a Moffett fork truck, so at my house they parked on the street and drove each pallet up my steep driveway and loaded them into my garage over the lip of the concrete floor along the garage door. I borrowed a pallet jack from work for final placement in the back corner of the garage. I only had to lift the pellet jack on and off my pickup truck...I didn't have to lift a single bag and they stayed nice and neatly stacked on the pallets they cam on. If you have a situation like me, it doesn't get much easier than this unless you have your own heavy equipment!

I paid $65 to have 5 ton delivered to my house, and put into my garage. There was zero heavy lifting required. Well worth the extra $25.00 to me!

I purchased two tons From Home Depot and used there truck cost me 25 for the truck. I had them load the truck with the fork lift then went inside and told them to start the time on the truck 40 minutes. then drove home about 3 miles unloaded one ton in the garage then drove back had them load the second truck and after it was loaded asked them to restart the time because it took extra time to load the second pallet then drove home unloaded went and added 5 dollars in gas printed a receipt end dropped the truck off. That was the second time i did that and worked both times so you only pay for the first rental and no extra charge for added time I also used the lowes 10% off moving coupon to purchase the 2 tons

In our 1995 ford 250 diesel we got the stove, venting, hearth and 2 tons of pellets (-14 bags) in the truck at the same time. Sure was squatting but we didn't want the guy to change his mind. Left him with a hole in his wall in December.

I rented a truck for my first ton from HD since my truck is out of commission (motor swap). It wasn't a bad experience and I was able to get pellet off loaded and truck back within time limit. From now on until my truck is fixed I plan on buying 10 at a time with my 10% discount it works out to same price as buying a ton and renting a truck. Also moving 10 at a time beats 50 at a time.

Also my local HD is out of chow they have prestologs and I'm actually happier with the prestos over the chow. Chow seem to have longer pellets which clog my stove.

I guess the question is whether all that work was worth the $25 you saved by not having HD deliver the pellets. I bought 4 tons of Fireside Ultras from HD at $209 per ton. They delivered all 4 for $65. NO WAY I would do all the work of unloading 4 pallets for the $25 difference between the rental and the delivery - not to mention it would take me 4 trips and probably additional rental charges.

Besides, I leave 2 pallets outside under an overhang by my shed until the ones in the shed are used up and then transfer a pallet at a time into the shed bag by bag. That's enough exeertion for me. Then again I do have a 17 year old son who is pretty strong!

I can tell you that in my case, I hauled and loaded them myself because there wasn't a good place for a large truck to leave pallets of them. I have a walk-out basement that I could drive MY small pickup right up to. If there was a big delivery, I'd have to have them left in my driveway, and I'd have to bring them around back a few bags at a time in a wheelbarrow.

So, "delivery" is not the best option for everyone!

Home depot left the truck in the street and moved the pallets with a small machine. I wont be hauling pellets myself unless Im in a pinch. The little vehicle can move anywhere you need the pallet dropped.

Darn, I never thought to ask about delivery at HD. I was down to two tons of Hamers so I just picked up a ton of prestos, which is all I can fit on my trailer. That makes six trips to pick up pellets since August. Next year I'll get them to deliver six tons as soon as they are delivered to the store. I'd rather sit by the pool than unload pellets!

Same here. The driver, who has delivered here for the past three years, remembered where I wanted my stash and brought them down a narrow 200 foot path to the shed (big enough for a car but a too tight for a trailer) using a small three wheel fork lift.

Jeez it's not that I didn't want to share my location it's that I didn't even know anyone asked. I am off and on here. As my life dictates. I do have 2 jobs and am a single parent and I have a gf. etc etc.
